張炫文(1942-2008),民族音樂學家、作曲家。出生於臺中縣大安鄉(今臺中市大安區)。1962年畢業於臺灣省立新竹師範學校(國立新竹教育大學前身),1969年畢業於國立臺灣師範大學音樂學系,主修鋼琴、副修聲樂);1973年獲中國文化學院藝術研究所碩士學位,為臺灣歌仔戲音樂及臺語唸歌說唱音樂之學術硏究第一人。1973-1976任職於臺灣省立交響樂團(今國立臺灣交響樂團)研究部,1991-1993年任臺灣歌仔學會理事長,1976年起任教於臺中師專(今國立臺中教育大學)直至退休,曾擔任該校音樂系系主任。1976年獲中興文藝獎音樂獎章、1985年鐸聲獎 — 推展中小學音樂教育有功特別獎、1989年臺灣省音樂協進會「歌曲創作」音樂獎章。作品以聲樂曲為主,合唱曲《土地之戀》(1983)、《叫做臺灣的搖籃》(1993)及《風吹》(1994)等為代表作。

CHANG, Hsuan-Wen (1942-2008) was a music educator, ethnomusicologist and composer born in Taichung, Taiwan. He graduated from HsinChu Teachers’ College, and in 1969 received his Bachelor of Music degree from National Taiwan Normal University, majoring in piano and with a minor in voice. In 1973, he was awarded a Master’s degree from Chinese Culture University. Chang was the first person to conduct scholarly research on Taiwanese opera and Taiwan’s ballad singing tradition. From 1972-1976, he worked in the research department of the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, and from 1991-1993, he was the chair of the Taiwanese Opera Association. Chang taught at Taichung University of Education from 1976 until his retirement, and was also the diretor of the music department. He was awarded the Chung-Hsing Arts and Culture Award in 1976, as well as Excellent Teacher special award from the Ministry of Education for his work in promoting music education in primary and secondary schools. In 1989, he was awarded song composition awards by Taiwan Music Association. Chang’s compositions are mainly for voice, and his major works include Love of Land for choir (1983), A Cradle so called Taiwan (1993) and The Kite (1994).
