錢南章(1948生),作曲家。出生於江蘇省常熟縣。1949年隨家人來臺。畢業於中國文化學院(今中國文化大學),主修鋼琴;後留學德國慕尼黑音樂學院,主修理論作曲。1978年返國後,任教於中國文化學院,1989年起專任於國立藝術學院(今國立臺北藝術大學)音樂學系,至2013年退休。錢南章創作屢獲肯定,包括1997年第八屆金曲獎最佳作曲獎,1998年以臺灣原住民組曲《馬蘭姑娘》,獲得第九屆金曲獎最佳作曲獎,2002年以《佛教涅槃曲》得到第十三屆金曲獎最佳作曲人獎,2005年《號聲響起》獲得第十六屆金曲獎最佳作曲人獎;同年,榮獲第九屆音樂類國家文藝獎。2016年,以弦樂四重奏《小河淌水》再獲第二十七屆金曲獎最佳作曲人獎。除上述作品外,合唱組曲《我在飛翔》(1999)、交響曲《那魯灣》(2006)亦為其代表作。

CHIEN, Nan-Chang (born 1948) is a composer born in Jiangsu, China who came to Taiwan with his family in 1949. Chien graduated from the Chinese Culture Academy (the present-day Chinese Culture University), majoring in piano, and later studied at the Munich School of Music and Drama, majoring in composition. After returning to Taiwan in 1978, Chien taught at his alma mater, and later on became a full-time faculty member at the Department of Music at the National Institute of the Arts (the present-day Taipei National University of the Arts) until his retirement in 2013. He is a four-time recipient of the Golden Melody Award for Traditional Arts and Music in the Best Composer category, as well as having received the National Cultural and Arts Award. Chien’s key works include The Maiden of Malan for Orchestra and Chorus (1995), Buddhist Requiem (2001), the chorus suite, I am Flying (1999) and Symphony No.2 Nanuwan for solo voices and orchestra (2006).
