盧炎(1930-2008),作曲家。出生於南京市。由母親啟蒙,接觸傳統樂器、唱奏古琴曲。因為戰爭,隨著家人顛沛流離,遷至四川重慶,進了教會學校開始接觸教會音樂。1949年來臺,入臺灣省立師範學院(今國立臺灣師範大學)音樂學系。1963年赴美,先就讀州立東北密蘇里師範學院修習音樂教育,再轉曼尼斯音樂學院攻讀作曲,1971年取得文憑;隔年進入紐約市立大學修習作曲和電子音樂。1977年進入賓州大學學習作曲,兩年後獲碩士學位返臺定居,任教於東吳大學音樂學系,1997年專任退休。作品廣泛,涵蓋各種類型,曾兩度獲頒國家文藝獎,2003年獲頒東元科技人文獎。代表作有《浪淘沙》(1973)、《憶江南》(長笛與鋼琴二重奏及小型管弦樂、室內樂版)、《第二號鋼琴協奏曲》(2006-08)等。

LU, Yen (1930-2008) was a composer who was born in Nanjing, China and died in Taipei, Taiwan. From an early age, he was exposed to traditional Chinese instruments and Guqin music with his mother’s training. In the wake of the Chinese Civil War and the Second Sino-Japanese War, Lu moved around with his family and eventually settled in Chongqing, Sichuan, where he attended a church school and began to learn church music. Lu came to Taiwan in 1949 and entered the Department of Music at Taiwan Teachers’ College (the present-day National Taiwan Normal University). In 1963, Lu went to the United States to study music education at the State Missouri Teachers’ College in the northeast. He then went to the Mannes School of Music to study composition. In 1971, Lu obtained a diploma, and the following year, he entered the New York City University and studied composition and electronic music. In 1977, Lu studied composition at the University of Pennsylvania and obtained a master’s degree in 1979. He then returned to Taiwan and was appointed as the chair of the Department of Music at Soochow University, retaining the position until his retirement. Lu’s wide range of works contain the essence of Eastern and Western cultures. He was twice awarded the National Cultural and Arts Award, and in 2003, he was awarded the TECO Technology Foundation Award. Lu’s main compositions include Lang Tao Sha (1973), I Jiang Nan (for flute and piano duo and small orchestra) and Piano Concerto No. 2 (2006-08).
