CHUNG Ming-Kun, born in Pingtung in 1935, was a folk-song fieldworker. He received his Master's degree from the Music Department at Taiwan Provincial Teachers' College (now known as National Taiwan Normal University) and taught at Tainan Teachers' College (now known as Tainan University). In 1979 he returned to his hometown, Manzhou township, and organized the “Committee of Manzhou Folk Song Promotion.” In the following decades, he spent his leisure time collecting, preserving, and teaching folk music. He had discovered the local folk musician CHANG Ri-Gui, launched the folk-song training program, released albums of folk music, and promoted Manzhou folk music to become one of the major performing categories certified by the Ministry of Culture. He died in Tainan in 2013.
