陳中申(1956生),作曲家、笛簫演奏家、指揮家、音樂教育家。出生於雲林縣林內鄉。自10歲開始自學笛子,先後畢業於臺灣省立臺中師範專科學校(今國立臺中教育大學)、東吳大學音樂系,曾隨陳澄雄修習西洋長笛,隨賴德和、馬水龍、盧炎修習理論作曲,隨徐頌仁、黃曉同修習指揮。1989年成立臺北絲竹室內樂團,並於1992年擔任臺北市立國樂團指揮,2004年專任於國立臺南藝術大學中國音樂學系。2008年,研發陳氏半音笛,於臺灣及中國獲得專利,於笛簫教育卓有貢獻。曾多次獲得金鼎獎、金曲獎等獎項,更因個人音樂成就而1992年臺灣十大傑出青年、1998年中興文藝獎音樂獎、2019年第二十一屆國家文藝獎。代表作品有:國樂合奏曲《草螟弄雞公》(1988)、《扮仙》(1991)、國樂音樂劇《雞同鴨講》(1990)等。
CHEN, Chung-Shen (born 1956) is a composer, Dizi and Hsiao performer, conductor and music educator. He was born in Yunlin, Taiwan. Chen taught himself the Chinese flute from the age of ten and learned music at the National Taichung Teachers College (present day the National Taichung University of Education)and Soochow University. He studied flute with Tscheng-Hsiung Chen, music theory and composition with Deh-Ho Lai, Shui-long Ma, Yen Lu and conducting with Sung-Jen Hsu and Hsiao-Tung Huang. In 1989, Chang established the Taipei Folk Chamber Orchestra and was appointed as the conductor with the Taipei Chinese Orchestra in 1992. In 2004, he began teaching at the department of Chinese music at Tainan National University of the Arts. In 2008, he developed Chen's semitone flute and obtained patents in both Taiwan and China. He has since made great contributions to education in the Chinese flute. He is the recipient of the Golden Tripod Award and the Golden Melody Award. In 1992, he was awarded Taiwan’s Top Ten Outstanding Youth Award, and in 1998, the Zhongxing Arts and Culture Award for his personal achievements in music. Chen’s main compositions include, The Grasshopper Teases the Rooster for Chinese orchestra(1988), Ban Xian(1991) and the musical, At Cross Purposes for Chinese orchestra(1990).
