楊聰賢（1952）生於屏東，是臺灣當代重要作曲家。他以多重視角探索創作的意義，追尋在時空經緯中浮現的生命情調，並以音樂回應文化／歷史、社會／政治、宗教／信仰等議題；然而其核心關懷多指向生命本身的存有。早年向史惟亮習作曲，亦參與民歌採集，奠定其文化感知。1977年赴美，1991年返臺後，先後曾於東吳大學、交通大學與臺北藝術大學等高等學府任教。其音樂結合冷靜結構與東方詩性，重要作品如《日本山水》、《悼與安魂》、《讚竹》、《如果在冬夜，一個歌者……》、《失落之歌：雙簧管協奏曲》、《弦樂四重奏》、《山水舞鶴：幾近無言的表情世界》等。退休後楊聰賢長居於新竹，在簡樸生活與創作節奏中，持續以音樂凝視生命的深度。

YANG Tsung-Hsien (b. 1952) is a prominent Taiwanese composer whose work is distinguished by its contemplative engagement with the nature of musical creation and the existential dimensions of life. His music often reflects on cultural and historical memories, social and political conditions, and religious or spiritual thought, while ultimately centering on questions of human existence. Yang received early informal training in composition from Shih Wei-Liang and participated in Taiwan’s folk-song collection initiatives during the 1970s, experiences that helped nurture his cultural sensibility. In 1977, he moved to the United States for advanced study and returned to Taiwan in 1991. He subsequently taught at Soochow University, National Chiao Tung University, and the Taipei National University of the Arts, contributing significantly to contemporary composition education. His works are known for their clarity of structure and an Eastern-inflected poetic resonance. Representative compositions include “LANDSCAPES from a Japanese Album”, “A Requiem After Prayer”, “Chan-Tek”, “If on a Winter’s Night, a Singer…”, “Song of Losses”, “String Quartet”, and “Dancing Crane: The Internal Landscapes.” Since retirement, Yang has resided in Hsinchu, continuing to cultivate a modest lifestyle and a steady creative practice, using music as a means to contemplate the depth of lived experience.
