侯佑宗(1909-1992),傑出京劇鼓佬。出生於直隸省三河縣(今河北省三河市)。出身戲劇世家,父親為知名的梆子青衣,幼時由兄長啟蒙,後拜李得起、周月仙及鮑桂芬為師,習得各家各派之特點,為日後的演出奠定更寬廣的基礎。早年活躍於天津、北平、上海等地搭戲班演出,1948年隨名角顧正秋之顧劇團自上海來臺演出,就此定居臺灣。於陸光國劇隊司鼓達30年,1979年起共9年,他擔任郭小莊具創新性質之雅音小集的文武場領導,聲名大噪。在學術界亦貢獻所長,先後任教於中國文化學院、國立藝術學院(今國立臺北藝術大學)及國光劇校,受教者眾。1965年開始八次榮獲國軍文藝競賽的最佳配樂獎,1984年獲中國文藝協會頒贈榮譽文藝勳章,1985年獲第一屆民族藝術薪傳獎,1989年獲選為第一屆國家重要民族藝術藝師。
HOU Yu-Tsung (HOU You-Zong) was born in Sanhe, Hebei Province, China on the 24th day of the fifth month on the lunar calendar in 1909. Ho is often called the “King of Drums” in Taiwan because he was one of the most outstanding percussionists performing Beijing opera. He died on March 15, 1992. Early in his career, he was active in Tianjin, Beijing and Shanghai, and moved to Taiwan in 1949. Ho played the clapper drum in the Taiwan Army LuGuang Troupe for three decades and taught at Chinese Culture University, Taipei National University of the Arts and the National Guoguang Opera Academy. He was a winner of the 1st National Folk Art Heritage Awards in 1985 and was elected as one of the 1st National Important Folk Artists in 1989.
