馬水龍（1939-2015），作曲家。出生於基隆。1964年畢業於國立臺灣藝術專科學校（今國立臺灣藝術大學）音樂科，主修理論作曲；1975年畢業於德國雷根斯堡天主教會音樂與音樂教育學院，後受聘於東吳大學音樂學系；1982年轉任國立藝術學院，為音樂學系創系主任，後繼任教務長、院長。1986年獲美國國務院傅爾布萊特學術獎，赴美發表作品，拓展視聽。馬水龍為當代最重要作曲家之一，曾獲國家文化藝術基金會文藝獎、行政院文化獎、中山文藝音樂創作獎、第二十六屆傳統藝術金曲獎最佳藝術音樂專輯與最佳創作作曲獎、總統二等景星勳章。2007-2012年，獲臺北藝術大學、臺南大學、臺灣大學名譽博士學位。作品表現他對臺灣的濃郁情感，代表有《梆笛協奏曲》（1981）、鋼琴曲《雨港素描》（1969）、男聲合唱管弦樂《無形的神殿》（2005）。

MA, Shui-Long (1939-2015) was a composer born in Keelung, Taiwan. In 1964, he graduated from the National Taiwan College of Arts (the present-day National Taiwan University of Arts) with a major in composition and a minor in cello and piano. In 1972, he attended the College of Catholic Church Music and Musical Education in Regensburg (Hochschule für Katholische Kirchenmusik und Musikpädagogik Regensburg，HfKM) in Germany. Upon his return to Taiwan in 1975, Ma joined the faculty of Soochow University. He then taught at Taipei National University of the Arts, and in 1982 was the founding chair for the Department of Music and later became the dean of Academic Affairs and principal of the school. In 1986, Ma received a Fulbright scholarship and went to the United States and presented his compositions. He has been awarded the National Cultural and Arts Award, the National Cultural Award and the Sun Yat-Sen Culture and Arts Music Composition Award. Ma also received the Golden Melody Award for Traditional Music in the Best Album and Best Composition categories and the Order of Brilliant Star with Grand Cordon, which was presented by the President of Taiwan. Between 2007-2012, Ma was awarded with honorary doctoral degrees from Taipei National University of the Arts, National Tainan University and National Taiwan University. Ma’s best-known works include Concerto for Bamboo Flute and Orchestra (1981), A Sketch of the Rainy Harbor (1969) for piano, and The Invisible Temple (2005) for male chorus and orchestra.
