賴德和(1943生),作曲家、音樂教育家。出生於臺中州員林郡員林街(今彰化縣員林市)。畢業於國立臺灣藝術專科學校(今國立臺灣藝術大學),主修作曲。1968年,與陳懋良、馬水龍、游昌發、沈錦堂、温隆信共組「向日葵樂會」,發表新作,開啟臺灣當代創作的風潮。1973年於臺灣省立交響樂團擔任研究部主任,1978年赴奧地利,分別於奧福學院與莫札特音樂院研習音樂教育與作曲。1982年起,任教於國立藝術學院(今國立臺北藝術大學)至2008年退休。曾榮獲吳三連獎、國家文藝獎、傳藝金曲獎等獎項。舞劇音樂《眾妙》(1975,為傳統樂器及打擊樂)、交響曲《紅樓夢》(1983)、《安魂曲:祭九二一臺灣世紀末大地震》(2009)等為代表作,實踐「音樂創作對我而言,只是簡單的反映我『活著』的唯一方式。
LAI, Deh-Ho (born 1943) is a composer and music educator. He was born in Changhua, Taiwan. He graduated from Yuanlin Experimental High School and at the National Taiwan College of Arts (present day the National Taiwan University of Arts) majoring in composition. In 1968, Lai, along with Mau-Liang Chen, Shui-Long Ma, Chang-Fa Yu, Chin-Tang Shan and Lung-Hsin Wen, established the "Sunflower Music Assembly" and produced new music compositions. In 1973, he was the director of research department at the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, and Lai studied music education at the Orff Institute in Austria and composition at Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg in 1978. He took up a teaching position at the National Taipei University of Arts in 1982 until his retirement. Lai has been the recipient of the Wu San-Lien Award, the National Cultural and Arts Award and the Golden Melody Award in traditional music. Lai’s main compositions include Chung Miao for traditional instruments and percussions (1975), the symphony The Dream of the Red Chamber (1983) and Requiem: September 21st 1999 in Memoriam (2009).
