王沛綸(1908-1972),音樂文字作家、指揮家、作曲家。出生於江蘇吳縣。1923年考上蘇州中學,接受音樂啟蒙;爾後入上海的國立音樂院,主修小提琴,深植音樂之路。1943年指揮中國歌劇發展史上之重要曲目《秋子》,展露長才,亦以二胡好手之姿,創作國樂曲。1949年來臺,同年擔任臺灣省交響樂團(今國立臺灣交響樂團)特約指揮;1950年國慶日,應邀於總統府前指揮萬人大合唱。再以中廣名義,組業餘合唱團及管弦樂團,後更擔任臺視交響樂團之指揮。王沛綸勤於筆耕,不僅編寫音樂教材,更於1963年出版《音樂辭典》,首開臺灣編纂音樂辭書之先河,續而推出一系列以「音樂主題」為內容的書籍,如《交響曲主題》等。1969年,受聘於中國文化學院(今中國文化大學)音樂學系教授,期間因積勞成疾於1972年病逝。
WANG Pei-Lun was born in Wu, Jiangsu in 1908. He was accepted into Suzhou Junior High School at the age of 15, beginning his Chinese and Western music education. After graduating, he entered the National College of Music as a violin major. Wang came to Taiwan in 1949, publishing “The Anthology of Patriotic Songs,” “The Music Dictionary,” “The Chinese Opera Dictionary,” “Themes from Famous Operas,” and “Conducting.” “The Music Dictionary” is considered the first complete music reference book in modern China. Wang contributed a lot to Chinese traditional music as well. Aside from being a great erhu player, his Chinese music compositions also have a distinct style. Wang died in Taipei in 1972.
