莊永明（1942-2020），音樂作家、文史專家。出生於臺北市大稻埕，與李臨秋為鄰。從小即對民俗性歌曲擁有濃厚興趣，喜愛蒐集文物，遂將畢生精力投入臺灣史料的研究，其中包含臺灣歌曲。臺灣省立臺北商業職業學校（今國立臺北商業大學）畢業後，到臺灣通信工業公司擔任會計至1994年。1970年起，陸續於《中國時報》、《台灣新生報》等各大報刊雜誌發表文章，擔任專欄作家。1983年出版第一本著作《台灣第一》，在戒嚴時期引起不少的關注。1980年起積極整理臺語歌曲、俗諺語，並結識呂泉生，出版《台灣歌謠追想曲》、《台灣歌謠鄉土情》、《台灣歌謠尋根》等專書，至今著作共多達六十餘本，被《天下雜誌》選為「影響200，跨越2000」的臺灣人物之一，為臺灣民間史料收藏最豐富的研究者之一。

CHUANG Yung-Ming (1942-2020) is a music writer and a historian. He was born in 1942 at Dadaocheng, Taipei and was a neighbor of the famous lyricist Li Lin-Chiu. He was very interested in traditional folk songs as well as collecting historical artifacts since childhood, thus making up his mind to dedicate himself to the research of Taiwanese history. After graduating from Taipei Business Vocational School, now known as National Taipei University of Business), he worked as an accountant for the Taiwan Telecommunication Industry Company until 1994. Since 1970, he began to write articles and served as a columnist at major Taiwanese newspapers such as China Times and Taiwan Shin Sheng Daily News. His first book Taiwan No.1 was published in 1983, creating a cultural phenomenon in the period of martial law in Taiwan. He threw himself into the compilation of Taiwanese folk songs and proverbs since 1980 while getting acquainted with significant musicians such as LU Chuan-Sheng. He had published over 60 books, including the main ones such as Memories of Taiwanese Songs, Nostalgic Taiwanese Songs and Finding the Roots of Taiwanese Folk Songs, etc. He was selected as one of the 200 Most Influential People of the Millennium in Taiwan by the CommonWealth Magazine, and his collection of Taiwanese folk culture was regarded as one of the biggest in Taiwan.
