林道生（1934生），原住民音樂研究學者、作曲家。出生於彰化。就讀省立花蓮師範學校（今國立花蓮教育大學）期間，受到教師張人模啟發，開啟原住民音樂創作及研究之路。林道生的音樂專業技能幾乎是透過自學而來，1951年起擔任小學教師，1987年起任玉山神學院教會音樂系專任講師、1992年擔任音樂系專任副教授兼系主任至1998年退休，從事教育工作長達48年。他從1956年開始進行音樂創作，包含各類歌曲、西樂及國樂之器樂曲，重要作品有清唱劇《以馬內利》、管弦樂《花蓮港序曲》、《馬蘭姑娘鋼琴協奏曲》等。1989年起致力於原住民音樂的研究，走遍偏鄉200多個部落，調查原住民傳說，並採錄各地音樂，出版了《阿美族民謠100首》、《泰雅族民謠集》等，貢獻良多，2012年獲頒花蓮縣101年度文化薪傳獎特別貢獻獎。

LIN Daw-Sheng, born in Changhua in 1934, is an indigenous studies scholar and a composer. He attended Hualien Teachers' Junior College (now known as National Hualien University of Education), where he developed the interest in composing and researching indigenous music. From a family unable to provide sufficient financial support, LIN studied music mostly on his own. He had taught first at the elementary school and later at the university for 48 years between 1951 and 1999. He so far has composed more than 1000 pieces in various genres. Form 1989 up until now his life has centered at composing and researching indigenous music.
