李金土(1900-1979),小提琴家、音樂教育家。出生於臺北艋舺。1916年就讀於臺灣總督府國語學校,隨張福興、柯政和、一條慎三郎等學習音樂。1922年赴東京上野音樂學校,為第一位赴日主修小提琴的臺籍學生。返臺後任教於臺北第二師範學校(今國立臺北教育大學)音樂科,於1926年成立臺灣第一個弦樂四重奏,1932年舉辦「臺島洋樂競賽大會」小提琴音樂比賽,創臺灣首例,1934年參加「臺灣鄉土訪問音樂會」,以音樂服務大眾。二次戰後協助成立臺灣省警備總部交響樂團(今國立臺灣交響樂團),1948年任教於臺灣省立師範學院(今國立臺灣師範大學)音樂系,教授小提琴、樂理、視唱聽寫、音樂欣賞等課程,並著有《音樂欣賞法》、《音感訓練法》。李金土為臺灣西樂發展重要人物,於推動小提琴教育具重要意義。
LI Jin-Tu, born in Taipei in 1900, was a violinist and music educator. LI graduated from the Japanese School of the Governor-General of Taiwan in Taipei and the Tokyo School of Music in Ueno, Japan. He was the first Taiwanese student to study violin performance in Japan. After returning to Taiwan, he began to teach in the music department of Taipei Second Normal School (now known as National Taipei University of Education). When the ROC government retreated to Taiwan, LI taught in the music department at the Taiwan Provincial Teachers College (now known as National Taiwan Normal University). In 1926 he founded Taiwan’s very first string quartet and in 1932 held Taiwan’s first ever violin competition. In 1945 he helped in founding the Taiwan Garrison Command Orchestra (now known as National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra). LI is an important figure in the promotion of violin music and Western art music education in Taiwan during the first three quarters of the twentieth century. LI died in 1979.
