陳主稅(1942-1986),作曲家、小提琴家。出生於高雄縣。高中時期開始接觸音樂,1962年以小提琴主修考入國立臺灣藝術專科學校(今國立臺灣藝術大學),師事馬熙程,並隨許常惠習作曲。藝專期間與同學劉富美相戀,創作鋼琴曲《憶中的歌聲》、《秋》題獻給她,1967年結婚後定居高雄。曾多次參與製樂小集、亞洲作曲家聯盟中華民國總會發表小提琴曲、合唱曲及鋼琴曲等。1971年任臺南家政專科學校(今台南應用科技大學)音樂科弦樂教師,之後接任音樂組主任。1974年與蕭泰然及高雄地區藝文人士組成寒月小集,定期舉辦發表會,且極富文筆,常應邀於高雄市各大報社及臺北市《愛樂》雜誌撰寫文章,深耕高雄音樂文化及教育。1986年因英年早逝,留下給自己、妻子和朋友的三段樂曲《苦難組曲》。
CHEN Chu-Shui was born in Kaohsiung in 1942. He became interested in music during high school and studied violin with ZHENG You-Zhong. In 1962 he was admitted to the National School of Arts (now known as National Taiwan University of Arts), majoring in violin performance and studying with MA Xi-Cheng. During this time, he also studied composition with HSU Tsang-Houei. After graduation, he joined the “Musicking Club” founded by HSU Tsang-Houei. He married his college classmate LIU Fu-Mei in 1967 and moved to Kaohsiung. Beginning in 1970 he taught string performance in the music department of the Private Tainan Junior College of Home Economics (now known as Tainan University of Technology) and then become the head of the music department. When teaching at the college, CHEN did not stop composing. Together with other scholars and artists in the Kaohsiung area, he founded the “Hanyue (Cold Moon) Club” in 1974. The club regularly held concerts in order to establish musical culture and education in Kaohsiung. CHEN’s compositions have been performed in concerts held by the Asian Composer League of Taiwan. He died in 1986 at the age of forty-four due to lymphoma.
