蔡宗德(1963生),民族音樂學者。出生於新竹市。中國文化大學音樂學系國樂組畢業後,1990年負笈美國馬里蘭大學修習民族音樂學,於1998年獲得民族音樂學博士學位,長期在印尼、中國新疆、臺灣等地從事伊斯蘭宗教音樂、醫療民族音樂學、海外華人音樂、中國少數民族音樂研究,田野調查經歷豐碩,為少數專注伊斯蘭世界與東南亞音樂的臺灣學者。同時亦出版相關論文與專著,例如《音聲、儀式與醫療:印尼爪哇民俗療癒文化與活動》(2015)、《傳統與現代性:印尼伊斯蘭宗教音樂文化》(2006)、《伊斯蘭世界音樂文化》(2002)等。先後任教於中國文化大學中國音樂學系、國立臺灣藝術大學表演藝術研究所與國立臺南藝術大學民族音樂學研究所,拓展學生音樂視野,帶領東南亞音樂研究之新趨勢。
Tsai Tsung-te, born in 1963 in Hsinchu, is one of the few Taiwan scholars with long-time dedication to Islamic and South-East Asian Music. In 1990, Tsai went to study ethnomusicology at University of Maryland from Jozef Pacholczyk, Philip Schuyler, and Mantle Hood and got his PhD in Ethnomusicology in 1998. Tsai is well-experienced in field study through his long-time research on Islamic music, medical ethnomusicology, overseas Chinese music, music of ethnic minorities in China and traditional opera music in Taiwan, travelling widely to Indonesia, Xinjian, Iran and Uzbekistan. He has published three books: Sound, Ritual and Medicine: Culture and Activities of Javanese Folk Healing (2015),Tradition and Modernity: Islamic Music and Culture in Indonesia (2006) and Music and Culture of the Islamic World (2002) and many research papers, in seminars and academic journals within and outside of Taiwan, on topics like traditional music in Indonesia, Chinese music in Indonesia, medical ethnomusicology, Islamic religious music, Xinjian uygur music, and Taiwanese opera music.
