錢善華(1954生),作曲家、民族音樂學者、合唱指揮、聲樂家。出生於臺中市。就讀新竹師範附屬小學期間,加入學校合唱團啟發其音樂興趣。1972年,入國立臺灣師範大學音樂學系主修聲樂,師事戴序倫、鄭秀玲,大學畢業之後赴蘭嶼服務,在此期間致力於搜集、記錄並保存達悟族的傳統音樂文化。爾後分別獲得加州大學爾灣分校藝術碩士,與奧地利維也納國立音樂學院作曲文憑。在作曲、原住民音樂研究與合唱、聲樂上,都有不錯成果。教學專長領域,除作曲、音樂理論、西洋音樂史、合唱指揮外,亦包含世界音樂、亞洲音樂、南島語系音樂研究、臺灣原住民音樂研究等多元課程。在行政上亦展現長才,曾任國立臺灣師範大學音樂學院院長、音樂系主任、民族音樂研究所所長。
Chien Shan-hua, born in 1954 in Taichung, is a tenor vocalist, composer, ethnomusicologist, and choral conductor. Chien was inspired by his choral experience as a student to pursue a musical career. After he graduated from Department of Music, National Taiwan Normal University, Chien went to teach in Lanyu island, where he began to record traditional music of the Dawu tribe. Later on, he went abroad and got Master of Art from University of California, Irvine, and Composition Diploma from Vienna National Conservatory of Music. Chien has had impressive achievements in the areas of vocal performance, composition, and research in music of indigenous peoples in Taiwan. Currently he is a full-time professor at Department of Music and Graduate Institute of Ethnomusicology and Dean of College of Music of the National Taiwan Normal University and also serves as chairman of Society for Ethnomusicology, R.O.C. (Taiwan).
