鄭榮興 CHENG Rom-Shing 客家八音演奏家、作曲家 返回

鄭榮興(1953生),客家八音演奏家、作曲家。出生於苗栗。身為苗栗陳家班北管八音團第五代傳人,祖父為客籍音樂家陳慶松,隨祖母鄭美妹姓氏。自幼即能唱、能演奏各類傳統樂器,尤擅長客家八音。1972年考上東吳大學音樂學系第一屆,1976年轉入中國文化學院音樂學系國樂組第一屆,主修理論作曲。1984年獲臺灣師範大學音樂學碩士。2015年,獲香港新亞研究所文學博士。1990年代開始將所學戲曲、國樂、西式作曲訓練,投入教育中,並將前述所受之專業挹注於客家戲曲創作與編配中,又展現行政長才,任國立臺灣戲曲學院歌仔戲學系教授與校長、中華傳統客家表演藝術協會理事長及榮興客家採茶劇團創團人等,對客家戲曲研究、推廣展演,及奠定其教育體制,扮演極關鍵性角色,為臺灣客家音樂代表者之一。

CHENG Rom-Shing (born in 1953) is a Hakka Pa-Yin performer and composer. He was growing up as the 5th generation of the renowned Miaoli Chen Family Pei-Kuan Pa-Yin Group. His grandfather is the notable Hakka musician Chen Ching-Sung and his grandmother the famous Hakka Opera actress Cheng Mei-Mei, from whom he inherited his family name. He is a talented singer since childhood and well versed in playing many traditional musical instruments, especially those in Pa-Yin music. In 1973, he was admitted to Soochow University as one of the first students of the Department of Music. Then he was transferred to the Department of Music at the College of Chinese Culture (now known as Chinese Culture University) in 1976 and became the first student to enroll in its Chinese Music Program while majoring in composition. He earned his master’s degree in music at National Taiwan Normal University in 1984 and PhD in Liberal Arts at the New Asia Institute of Advanced Chinese Studies in Hong Kong in 2015. He began to apply what he had learned in traditional and Western music to the teaching and composition of Hakka Opera since the 1990s. Moreover, he did not only serve as the president of National Taiwan College of Performing Arts and the professor of its Department of Taiwanese Opera, but also as the chairperson of the Association of Traditional Hakka Performance Arts. Being the founder of the famous Rom Shing Hakka Opera Troupe, he is regarded as an iconic figure of the Taiwanese Hakka music who plays an important role in the education, preservation and promotion of Hakka Opera as well as in its research and performance.
