劉德義，字宜之，樂評家、作曲家、音樂教育家；1929 年 12 月 29 日生於河北省涿縣，1991 年 7 月 29 日逝世於臺北。臺灣省立師範學院音樂系畢業後，任教於師大附中並撰寫音樂評論。1960 年留學德國習作曲，以富有東方色彩的作品聞名。返國後投入音樂教育工作，於大專院校教授理論作曲、擔任合唱團指揮並編譯教科書，為臺灣音樂教育向下紮根。
LIU Te-Yi (LIU De-Yi) was a famous music critic, composer and music educator. He was born in Hebei province's Zhuo county on Dec. 29, 1929 and died in Taipei on Jul. 29, 1991. After graduating from Taiwan Provincial Teachers College, he served as a teacher at the school's affiliated junior high school and worked as music critic. In 1960, he went to Germany to study composition and became famous for his Eastern-influenced compositions. After returning to Taiwan, he continued working in music education, teaching at National Taiwan Normal University, where he taught music theory and composition, and served as conductor of choirs. He also compiled textbooks, building a solid foundation for music education in Taiwan.
